| Overview: | Friendship and loyalty are put to the ultimate test as two young men embark on a violent crime spree in this brutal, action-packed Dutch thriller inspired by a real-life case.
The promise of adventure and money--and most importantly, a sense of belonging--leads a nice suburban kid into a hellish world of violence in this action-packed Dutch drama by first-time director Pieter Kuijpers. Seventeen-year-old Stan lives with his aloof mother and dentist stepfather. Desperate for a father figure, Stan is disinterested in school and bored with his comfortable surroundings. He finds his chance of escape, as well as an older brother/father surrogate, in the person of Maikel, a devil-eyed, long-haired, hot-tempered criminal. Accompanied by Maikel's beautiful lover Anna, they embark on a series of increasingly violent and dangerous crimes. Their ruthlessness soon attracts the attention of the local Turkish crime lord Osman who hires them as contract killers. As their brutal activities increase, so does Maikel's temper, a problem not helped by the budding attraction between Anna and Pieter. When Maikel falls out of favor with Osman and is forced to flee or fight, Pieter must decide between loyalty and safe escape.
Based on the true story of a group of young killers who shook Holland in the mid-90s, Godforsaken is a furious ride through a world most Americans see as peacefully quaint. You will think otherwise after seeing this heart-stopping and intense drama.
