A very hesitant recommendation for this beautiful film that unfortunately seems to drag and failed to hold our interest. A good bet for fans of Gerard Depardieu or Ridley Scott.
An absolute classic, often imitated, but never rivaled.
Comparing this film to the original is a bit apples-and-oranges, but this film focuses (and succeeds) on quantity and spectacle where the first focused more on intimate suspense.
It's hard to watch a film like this, that focuses entirely on severely depressed and/or dysfunctional people. But if you can bear the content, the filmmaking is excellent.
