This is a quality film, with some fun moments, but overall it felt too mild and possibly a bit too long. Its biggest asset is definitely its quirky characters, who stay with you well after the screen goes dark.
Not quite the masterpiece "Twilight Samurai" was, but an incredible film nonetheless, applying a somewhat modern perspective to the plight of lower caste samurai and citizens of mid-19th century Japan.
