Plot:Two shorts from acclaimed director Ann Hui.
Overview:FROM VIETNAM (1978):
Ah Man, born during the Vietnam War, lost both his parents and his elder sister when he was still very young. Barely into his teens, he fled to Hong Kong illegally and found refuge with his elder cousin Yin, his only living relative. Yin teaches Ah Man Cantonese and helps him integrate into society, and his compatriot Chung even finds him work as an apprentice in an art gallery. Ah Man's new life seems to be on track - until, delivering a painting to a hotel, he is shocked that Yin works as a gigolo. Resolving to run away from home, he could never have anticipated that the next time he was to see Yin, it would be in entirely different circumstances...

WHERE ARE YOU GOING? (aka "The Prodigal's Return") (1992)
A contentious public figure in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Mainland Chinese see him as "Taiwanese", but the Taiwanese regard him as "Chinese". Born in Taiwan, he returned to the Chinese mainland to find his roots, and his hugely popular patriotic song "Descendants of the Dragon" made him the toast of his mainland compatriots. He is the renowned singer-songwriter Hou Dejian.

Director Ann Hui examines this public figure who, as a result of saying he "didn't see anyone get killed" during the events at Tiananmen Square on 4 June 1989, became the subject of immense controversy. The film includes interviews with activist leaders Zhou Tuo and Liu Xiaobo, who were there with Hou at the time, as well as sequences featuring the subject himself, giving his own version of how he variously stood firm and compromised against the pressure exerted on him by the Chinese government. Subsequently, he chose "deportation back to Taiwan", where he was condemned by the public. In the end, where can he find refuge?
