An under-rated independent film that deals with loneliness in contemporary society. Highly original, stylistically erotic, and very passionate.
This film exemplifies what good filmmaking is all about. It's a story of people finding meaningful connections with each other in a small Japanese community in the late '50s, as even the country itself is re-defining itself. Brilliant direction, acting, effects...a beautiful score, it's got it all, a true gem.
This film gets a lot of mileage (literally) out of its super-cool Japanese "bullet train" footage, kitschy 70s music, and kinetic shooting style. It loses points for its gaping plot holes.
