ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
The tale of the 47 Ronin is the classic true story of samurai honor, which tells of a group of leaderless samurai willing to risk everything for the sake of revenge. Then their master is forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) for assaulting a rude court official, the ronin desperately seek to avenge his death. After patiently waiting and planning for over a year, they launch an epic assault that culminates in a final act of vengeance and, inevitably, their own inescapable demise.

Now, master director Kon Ichikawa brings his own unique perspective to the greatest story in Japanese history, the incredible saga of the 47 Ronin.
