A horrible video transfer of a great film. I would like to add to the already existing comments that the Chinese version here is terrible not only in subtitling but also in picture quality. The VHS version has a far superior quality in picture.

Excellent film, poor subtitles. The movie was clearly translated from Japanese to Chinese, and then to English. The title character Sanshiro Sugata is never mentioned by name, but is instead renamed "Chee". The movie is about judo, but the word "judo" is translated "karate". The word for style or school is translated "stream", leading to awkward translations like "I'm from the Moon Stream". Unless you know some Japanese, the Mei Ah release of the film is just awful.
