The DVD release from Crash Cinema is mildly annoying (but then again, aren't most domestic releases?). The video portion is passable; there's a heavy amount of dust and dirt on the print, but on the plus side, it's a rather clear widescreen print apparently mastered from the negative, so no VHS artifacts here. It still appears to be cropped somewhat, as is evidenced by the title sequence reading "ETURN OF THE CHINESE BOXE". The sound is a flat, muffled, and distorted mono track, and I found myself struggling to understand what was being said in many scenes. The dub's choice of voice actors didn't help much either, with the most obnoxious voice being the tournament caller -- I ended up cringing everytime he had dialogue. There's a few parts in the audio track where there's a rather loud buzzing, as well, which is even more distracting.

TECH NOTES
The letterboxed format is the main selling point on this DVD. The image quality starts off horribly with a transfer in desperate need of restoration but improves noticeably once the opening credits finish rolling. The colors are a bit washed out but the clarity and contrast are quite good. The mono sound is adequate. The dubbing is fairly poor with several of the characters sounding like complete pansies, but some viewers may find this quite entertaining. No extras here.
