Good action movie starring Ti Lung. Very good story and action sequences. In this movie the Bare Footed Kid (Ti Lung) was taken in by the store owner of a silk screening shop. Of course there were bad guys. They tried to muscle in on the store to take control. Ti Lung was skilled in kung fu and tried to come to their aid. This movie had a few funny scenes also. Some of the studio tracks were fading in and out, but overall it was fine.

After his father dies, a poor young man sets out to find an old friend of his father's and hopes of a better life. He manages to find the man (Ti Lung) who is foreman at a dye factory and gives him a bed and a job. There are those in the village who do not want the factory to succeed and will stop at nothing to obtain the secrets that have made the business so profitable. Several attempts are made to buy the factory, but the owner (Maggie Cheung) isn’t interested despite hints of threats.

When something does go wrong the Kid administers his own kind of retribution which unfortunately doesn’t work out so well. Soon he is caught up in multiple schemes and must decide what is really important to him.

There is really only one thing wrong with "The Bare Footed Kid": the Bare Footed Kid, as played by Aaron Kwok. The only reason I rated "The Bare Footed Ki"d four stars was because of the fine efforts delivered by Ti Lung ("A Better Tomorrow" series, "Drunken Master 2") and Maggie Cheung ("Hero", with Jet Li, "The Iceman Cometh"), both veteran actors in a range of films including period pieces. They deliver excellent performances. However they needed a “kid fighter” and there was no one to be found, apparently, besides Aaron Kwok. Enter Liu Chia Liang who some how managed to create the illusion that Kwok could fight, and fight well. Not an easy task! It was surprising and a bit disappointing to see the use of so much wire-fu, but apparently that was the only way Liu Chia Liang could make it appear Kwok had a clue about martial arts, and was in good enough shape to carry it out. Fortunately it was enough to pass off Kwok without changing the plot.

I also didn’t like the serious use of wires with a fight with Ti Lung. Granted he wanted to show the Kid a whole lotta fighting skills in a very short period of time but it was just too much. Ti Lung was only around 46 when he was in this movie--plenty young enough to do almost all of his fighting without the wires.

But the ending is worth waiting for, courtesy of Liu Chia Liang! His reputation for amazing fight choreography and long fight sequences does not disappoint! Two nearly back-to-back fights is typical as is his use of unusual but deadly weapons. Without giving away the ending, I was disappointed in one aspect of the Kid’s choices. Viewers will just have to watch the movie to understand my reference.

This is a brilliant film which not only has some exciting fight sequences but a strong story with elements of drama, romance and characters you can really care about. The fight scenes are well staged and, while I'm not a fan of wire assisted action, here it is used sparingly and to good effect. The humour is subtle, which makes a nice change from the usual broad slapstick you find in martial arts movies; and the film builds to a dramatic and powerful ending.

Good movie in general, a slow start on the action prevents this one from being 4 stars up. It takes time before we see the talent of the main character on screen. But a strong cast of actors.

The Bare Footed Kid and Blade Of Fury are not your typical excellent kung fu vehicles of the great Ti Lung.

Slow start but the end has pretty good fighting scenes that saved this movie from being a total disaster.

I enjoy being surprised by what I call sleepers. This is exactly what one has in "The Bare Footed Kid". When I purchased this movie I was hoping for more hand - to - hand combat with a lot less wire work. I adore the "Fist of Legend" styled movies a lot more. You will get minor wire work in this movie, but much more respectable martial arts choreography. To add, actors/actresses one may not be familiar with. This is pleasing, for it brings promise to the future of the martial arts movies' genre. I once again, strongly suggest this movie to be added to one's repertoire.

Some good fights, but not enough, would be much better if there were more fights. A good kung fu film, but nothing really stand-out

I bought this movie for the sole purpose of seeing Ti Lung. He does not do much fighting, but as usual his acting is great.

I am not much of a wire fu fan, so I did not get a whole lot out of the film. As usual, Ti Lung played the noble upstanding charater, but I kept waiting for the moment when he would cut loose and wield some swords or a staff like back in the old days. It never happens, and his finale, although very intense, depended too much on wire fu for my taste. Granted he was/is older; but for me the anticpated joy was in seeing how good his skills were as an older man.

I think there are many people who would love this movie, and the passion and real skills of the young main character, but for what I was looking for, the movie did not do much for me.

Grab the Prozac quick! I'm still amazed that there is a movie out in this world offering so much depression. But besides that the martial arts in here is crazy cool; go Liu Chia-Liang, you are my favorite martial artist. What would become of this film if you did not exist? Overall, I liked this movie but I'm too happy to watch this movie again.

This film is a masterpiece! My most favorite independant MA films that was ever produced. A must see for any MA fan. The chemistry between Ti Lung and Maggie Cheung is awesome and this is by far the greatest performance Aaron Kwok has ever done. This film will make you root for the good guy and sometimes leave you in tears.

Upon his father's death, a poor boy (Aaron Kwok) seeks out his father's friend (Ti Lung) and receives assistance from that friend and his employer (Maggie Cheung). Because of his martial arts prowess, he gets hired by the local police and gets tricked (and partly framed) into betraying his previous benefactors. Bad things are done, and he takes outrageous revenge. Both he and Ti Lung have wonderful one-vs-many semi-tragic/very heroic fight scenes. There is a freshness to the fight choreography which I appreciated. A good script, and 3 or 4 very charismatic main characters.

Aaron is quite watchable in most of his films and this movie is a gem. The story is about a kid (The Bare foot kid.) who is taken in by Maggie Chueng's character. It has a love story in it and father/son typ element with Ti Lung giving a nice performance. I loved the movie and although the bad guys all get what they deserve in the end - the movie still has a downbeat conclusion (which I still enjoyed.) Come on guys - Would you have prefered a happy ending?
