I've always thought the Chinese sense of humor is very similar to the American one, and this movie reinforces that belief. It has some wonderfully hilarious sequences in it, and the performances by the cast are all excellent. The movie starts with a story, then at some point seems to have several stories, and finally devolves into a frenetic, farcical free-for-all. I didn't see a kitchen sink, but there were monster toilets...and the three monsters who used them, Gorilla, Dinosaur, and Big Bird.

It's great fun, slapstick in the vein of the Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges. Wong Kar Wai directed, and Sammo Hung choreographed the fight sequences. I'm very glad to have this film in my collection.

It seems as if people either love or hate this film, and I had high expectations considering past Cantonese comedy films I have seen; but I really did not enjoy "Eagle Shooting Heroes", barely making it to the finish line. It would be a very difficult task to try and explain the plot and all the strange events that follow, so I won't bother as I started to ignore the plot 30 minutes into the film. This movie also features one of the greatest wastes of talent that I've seen in a Hong Kong film, as the majority of the cast gave poor performances in my opinion. I know they were trying to ham it up, but only Joey Wong and Bridgette Lin's characters were entertaining--but that should be expected from Lin, who could always make something out of nothing.

I know they were poking fun at the martial arts genre, but I found the ridiculously sped up action to be a distraction and waste of Sammo Hung's talent, which seems to be a trend in "Eagle Shooting Heroes".

It's possible some of the humor was lost in translation, but I did not find this one very fun, as each scene went from lame joke to another, many of which seemed to have gone on forever. There were a few chuckleworthy moments, but not enough for me to recommend this film.

There are some positive aspects, such as high production values, great sets and costumes, and an all-star cast, even if many of them gave awkward, subpar performances considering their previous work. My personal opinion is that people should be cautious before purchasing this (the back cover of the DVD makes it sound like it's a quintessential comedy classic), but a weekend rental would be fine.

This is a prime example of you get it or you don't. Now I'm not belittling those that don't get this movie--I think they were more disappointed because they were expecting something different--but this movie is hysterical. Maybe it takes a more Asian sense of humor, but this movie was really great. It helps to understand that this isn't a true kung fu movie, rather a comedy about kung fu.

Maybe I missed something, but I did not enjoy this one. Great cast, but really stupid, confusing, not funny, poor use of wires, completely absurd. I usually like this type of movie, but I don't want to even watch this again.

It may be a cultural thing, but if you do get the jokes in the movie it's hilarious. I have watched this film again and again and it has not lost its appeal.

Action packed full of stars, each star plays his/their role extremely well and is no show-stealer--everyone is wonderful. Might even be confusing the first time through but that's why you'd buy it and watch it again! You probably missed the joke because you were still recovering from the first.

Maybe it's just me. . .maybe it's cultural. . .maybe it's my training as a movie maker but I find this bit a complete waste of great talent. I'm tolerant of sorry scripts, bad acting, bad cinema, etc. but I can't turn a blind to overall bad production, guys in monster suits (I dislike all those Japanese Gamera flicks) and silly, incoherent nonsense. This movie is definitely acquired taste and I don't discourage those from giving it a go. Just be forewarned it's not for everyone, especially me. Thumbs down.

This film is the only HK film I know of that one might say is as funny as "God of Cookery." I was playing this for some freinds the other night and one person had to go take a time out because she was hyper-ventilating. Sure it's got the HK film obsession with bodily functions; but, combined with a real wit and the incredible combination of Maggie Cheung AND Briggite Lin, it becomes something quite fantastic. Eagle Shooting Heros trancends the Hong Kong genre to become a classic of comedy cinema. You really won't regret it.
