In “Flirting Scholar,” Stephen Chow is joined by the lovely and talented Gong Li, plus Cheng Pei Pei, Francis Ng and Gordon Liu! If you are a fu fan, the cast alone should get you in the door.

I am not sure why it got a Cat III stamp, but it is over the top with pretty ladies, wire-fu, vomiting, Chinese opera, poetry, rap, pratfalls, and suicide attempts. The amazing thing to me about this and other Steven Chow movies is how much the laughs are based on inside jokes, cultural and historical references, puns and language humor; and yet I still find so much that I “get.” If you are an HK-comedy fan, you really should check this out.

The first Stephen Chow film I ever saw, and the reason why I became such a big fan of the man. The film is funny as hell, and there is some decent action along the way too. I love it and so will his fans.

Once again, Stephen Chow and the gang nearly made me piss myself. I don't know what it is, but I'm a sucker for his brand of slapstick humor. It may not be for everyone, but if you're familiar with Chow's brand of humor and you dig it, then this title should be in your DVD library (if not already). Plus, for an extra incentive, this movie also has a brief appearance by another one of my favorite actors: Francis Ng. So, there you go. :)

Fun little romatic comedy (flaws and all). It's worth the watch. It's basically a boy-meets-girl story, with some song and dance numbers and a lot of comic kung fu. Very silly! Light amusing film! A MUST SEE CHOW FILM!!!

Stephen Chow plays a painter/calligrapher/poet who is "bored with his many wives who spend all day playing Mah Johngg and have no appreciation for his work. He sees Gong Li's character one day and falls in love with her. To get closer to her, he sells himself as a servant to her family. The matriarch of this family turns out to be an old enemy of *his* family, resulting in much trouble for Stephen Chow's character. One of the better Stephen Chow movies I've seen.

A good Mo Lai Tau for people who don't like HK comedies and one of Stephen Chow's best. A little kung-fu action thrown in too! Look for old school greats Gordon Lau as the Evil Scholar and Cheng Pei Pei as the matriarch of the house, they even end up briefly facing off against each other. Take it too seriously and you'll be missing the point. FS also includes the "legendary" 4 Perverted Heroes, who I think should be given their own feature film. 9/10

This movie is an adaptation of a very famous book/TV series/movie. Of course, it is warped and twisted as only Stephen Chow can do. Tong Bak Fu (Stephen) is a famous painter and poet, one of the 4 Scholars. He has 8 wives, but is very unhappy with life. One day he eyes Chou Heng (Gong Li), a maid who works for Madam Wah (long time Golden Harvest actress and now children's show hostess Cheng Pei-Pei), while they were going to a religious ceremony. He tricks his way into becoming a servant in the Wah household, signing a contract. (He sneakily puts in a few extra words into the contract.) In order to get to his prized Chou Heng, Tong Bak Fu will have to deal with Madam Wah, Evil Scholar (the sworn enemy of the Tong household), and a host of other obstacles If you've never heard Chinese rap, now's your chance. Also some interesting fighting sequences that are on the hilarious side.
