Originally hired to work as a maid in the home of a privileged Saigon family, Mui becomes a substitute daughter to a family that has lost its only girl child. When the father absconds with the family's fortune, Mui's mistress is forced to sell her to a family friend, Khuyen, a man Mui has secretly loved since a child. Unable to speak her desire, Mui shows her forbidden affection in every service she performs for him, and eventually Khuyen takes notice...
