Plot:	This German made-for-TV film is a remake of the well-loved 1959 film of the same name, directed by Bernhard Wicki, a true story of a group of German teens who blindly band together to protect their homeland in the waning years of WWII. The original film, made in the fifties, was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe Award. April 1945 - Hitler's Germany is on the threshold of collapse. The Wehrmacht is mobilizing its last resources as Elfie Bauer (Franka Potente), a sports and music teacher, begins a relationship with her student Walter. Now the 16-year-old gets drafted and will be sent to war. Elfie risks everything to keep her young lover out of this senseless mission - taut Walter wants to prove himself. With his friends Albert, Siegi, Jiirgen. Karl, Ernst and Klaus, he's assigned to defend the bridge in front of the city gates. What was supposed to be a minor mission quickly proves to be a life-and-death battle. In the very first American bombing raid, the young men are confronted by the brutal reality of war. Although Elfie makes desperate attempts to stop her lover from taking part in the useless battle, his and the other boys' pride and blind obedience to Hitler compel them to hold their position. Under Walter's command, they prepare for the imminent attack even as the last of their fellow soldiers drive away in defeated retreat. Walter is insistent on continuing to defend the bridge - regardless of how many lives it might cost...
