It's been a long time since I last saw this 80s anime treasure, and it is every bit as good as I remember. This and "Vampire Hunter D" are perfect examples of what made 80s anime so, so great. That total over-the-top quality they have makes them just so fun. The bad guys are totally evil and often twenty feet tall, the good guy sounds like Bruce Lee when he kicks ass, the deaths are gory, and the action is plentiful--there isn't anything in this movie that goes halfway. My favorite scene is the reintroduction of Ken, when he smashes down an entire skyscraper that starts to fall on his head and just keeps walking, plowing a hole through it as he goes. This is another in a long line of excellent 80s post-apocalyptic movies like "Road Warrior", only with more gore and kung-fu, and who doesn't want more gore and kung-fu? |
