If you grew up in the 80s, you will know the schoolyard between the fans of Jason and Freddy very well. I found it was usually which series you watched first often dictated whom you liked better. I have to admit I am a Jason fan, but I still think the original "A Nightmare On Elm Street" is one of the best slashers out there. It is all about Freddy, he is the only talkative slasher and it is to Robert Englund's credit that Freddy is such a great wise ass and villain. Definitely a must-see for movie fans, it is one of those incredibly accessible slasher movies that appeals to even non-horror movie fans.

Oh like you need an uppity articulate review (as if I ever have done one, but eh oh well) about this film. One of the most original and greatest slasher films ever.

Oh and the remake of this film will be insufferable 'cause Robert Englund WILL NOT REPRISE HIS ROLE AS FREDDY! DIE, HOLLYWOOD! :)

YYes, and I'm also really unhappy to hear that Englund will not be Freddy in the upcoming "reimagining". But we'll see how it turns out. Hopefully better than "Friday The 13th".Choco

An absolute classic of the slasher-horror genre. "A Nightmare On Elm Street" manages to be a terrifying movie, even with repeat viewings. The originator of the Freddy series thankfully avoids the bizzare humor that dragged the sequels down, and will make the casual horror viewer jump at least once.

The acting is rough, but this is an 80's teen horror flick, so that is not only forgivable, but expected.

Yeasily the best installment of the series. Pray a creep like Freddy doesn't enter your neighborhood.****/**** Tigerbloodclaw
YFreddy's taunting, wisecracking nature is definitely well established even in this first entry, but yes, it got wildly out of control in later films. Great film.Choco
