Let me get this straight: these two films which follow directly on from each other are loosely based on the manga series of the same name. The manga is superb, and if you compare with the film, the manga simply flaws it. However if you watch the films as a standalone away from the manga then they come into their own. Fabulous story, well acted, with plenty of twists and turns. You end up having sympathy and remorse for the main character even though he takes his justice way too far and is quite cold hearted about his Death Note killings. | "Death Note 1" is about a law student named Light. He suddenly becomes interested in the fate of criminals the police have been tracking. When he discovers how many go free, he starts to lose his faith in the law. This is when he finds a great gift: a book--and not any book, the Death Note book. Any person’s name that is written in the book will die. But as the death toll rises, the police get suspicious that the deaths are not accidental, and he starts to get carried away with the power of the Death Note. The story is good and the ending you will never predict.
"Death Note 2" continues exactly where "Death Note 1" leaves off. With this installment a new Note Book and a new death god, Misa Amane, a TV actress, finds the book and Light. Two books and two death gods working together for the vision of a new world. But her carelessness and ignorance get her captured. What will light do to avoid capture? Who will win the final round, Kira or L? Another great story with an fitting ending for a great series. |
