The is film about some guy called Li who supposedly has a fetish for necrophilia; but of course, after being discovered, he is detained by police and put in an insane asylum for two years. After his release, mysterious killings are ambient as women are being killed then raped. Could it be that Li's obsession over necrophilia has become malignant? Or is it something else entirely?

This is an excellent mystique slasher film. The story was well told with great pacing and was, overall, easy to follow.

There are scenes of disturbia that will make you slightly spasmodic. The scene where you see a woman covered in maggots and nightcrawlers is downright gross, and to add to the sickness which ultimately makes this one of the most memorable scenes in horror cinema, the necrophiliac's twisted expressions after he copulates the corpse when it's covered in maggots. Plus you are greeted with blood-splattering mayhem as well, if you like this sort of thing.

One of the best Chinese horror films ever made, and this is saying a lot because most Chinese horror films suck ass.

I am a big fan of Kuei Chih-Hung films and the Shaw Brothers Studios, and this one is a worthy addition to either collection. A solid murder mystery with many over the top moments that only Kuei Chih-Hung can deliver. I also loved the dark atmosphere of the film and the regular use off fog to give its eerie feel. The film also had a twist which I won't reveal, but which unfortunately led to its major plot holes. This is a disappointment considering it made complete sense during most of its brisk 82-minute runtime. Although I don't think it is as entertaining as "Boxer's Omen", it is still well worth a look.

Absolutely fabulous Shaw Brothers who-done-it (who-done-it with a corpse is a more fitting explanation), but that is part of the great charm of this movie. You have maggots, you have splattering gore-filled murders, you have necrophilia, the only thing that is missing is the bug eating to really make this a great gory Shaw Flick, but I love it nonetheless. Fans of Italian gialli films will find many parts of this movie familiar but with a flair all its own. There is a masked killer with a knife, there is a stalwart detective in pursuit and a bevy of attractive ladies at the mercy of the knife-wielding maniac. This is my kind of movie. I just love a murder mystery, and when you plant it firmly in the wild and wacky world of the Shaw Brothers and in the hands of Gwai Chi Hung--who made not only "Boxer's Omen", the greatest of all the black magic movies, but also another of my all time favorite movies, "Hex", which shares many similarities with this one--you can't lose in my book. Extra points are awarded to the girls who play some of the victims for holding still while armies of maggots crawl across your naked flesh. Now that is dedication.
