| This is an interesting film with a convoluted plot line that flirts with the concept of father/daughter incest--doubtless why it was considered "controversial" back at the time of its initial release. The movie was filmed as a period piece in some old Nevada mining towns, which gave it a fair bit of ambiance (albeit bleak) and features some good (if somewhat over-the-hill) actors.
The main element, however, that contributes to its watchability is Pia Zadora in her role as the round-heeled "prodigal daughter" who dumps herself into the life of her estranged "father", tempting him mightily. Ms Zadora isn't going to win any Academy Awards for her acting talents, but she manages to convey some emotion in her "premiere" performance in a major movie. Her strong suit is her uncanny "baby doll" looks that make her look like about a 13 year old--even though I believe she was pushing 30 when the film was made.
It's pretty much a tease-a-thon from beginning to end as she prances about in revealing "white trash" costumes and there are a couple of brief nude scenes. The flick gets a lot of its steam from the "forbidden" nature of the subject matter but manages to not sink into outright sleaze--all in all pretty enjoyable. |
