I judge a movie by its ability to keep me awake after hours, and this "Bloody Parrot" sure did!

Blessed with luscious set designs, costumes, weird characters, perilous places, gore, nudity, excellent fighting, and a generally creepy atmosphere, all in a mystery chase, you'll love this if you liked "Human Lanterns" for sure!

What's the film about? People die whenever they encounter the bloody parrot, a beam of light that scares the bloody hell out of anyone who sees it. Anyway, our protagonist gets involved in the mystery and falls for a prostitute who is protected by a witch. In addition, some treasure was stolen which has strong linkage to the bloody parrot. Throughout the story we meet a number of strange characters. This movie is quite surreal, and if you're drunk it will be quite an experience!

Guess what. Just see this film. I can't explain it, but it's really good.

A highly enjoyable softcore swordplay/horror offering featuring fine action choreography from Hsu Hsia (who is one of the most underrated action directors of his generation), luscious cinematography, impressive production design, and an atmospheric score. One of the more memorable films produced during the latter stages of the Shaw Brothers era and certainly more than worth a look for fans of Hammer horror. Fans of Sun Chung's classic "Human Lanterns" (1982) will certainly more than relish "Bloody Parrot".

Absolutely nuts. What happens when you combine Shaw Brothers black magic movies with sword fighting? You get "Bloody Parrot", a movie that has everything I love about Shaw Brothers movies: kung fu fighting, crazy-named characters with insane special moves, plenty of creepiness, great sets (the final set is a real gem), a healthy splatter of gore, a dash of boobs, and a good helping of crazy--and you get the most twisted cake imaginable.

I went into this expecting a sword-swinging tale with a plot like "Duel of the Century" or "Murder Plot", but I got all that plus black magic, and gore. If you like Shaw's black magic movies this will be a real treat, especially if you want it combined with tons of action and boobs.

Did this film entertain me? Yes it did. Jason Pai Piao solves a mystery involving characters dying at the sight of a red supernatural parrot. There is also the matter of some missing treasure thrown in for good measure. The martial art scenes are good. The sets, costumes and characters were also good. The plot can get confusing, but the ending answers all questions. Worth a look.

Wow. How can I rate this film? The fighting was top notch, the plot was kinda' confusing, but then toward the end I was in shock. The hero is trying to figure out the secret of the Bloody Parrot, with people getting poisoned. An autopsy is performed--yes an autopsy. But what kept my attention through the whole disturbing twisted film was the reason that I won't give it away. I suggest you check this one out.
