 | | | | The kung fu is incredible and Donnie is amazing in his debut. But the film itself is stupid and annoying. But as soon as there is fighting going on, it rocks. | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | i agree their are alot of times were parts are sped up . i did lol a couple of times . action is good..but bot as much action as i hoped for | 100pr00f |

 | | | | I am in the miniority of people that didn't care for this movie. The ultra low budget really killed this for me, as well as there being more comedy than fighting. It was really weird seeing Donnie Yen doing comedy; I can't remember any other movie of his where he does comedy. The few fight scenes Donnie has are pretty good, there just weren't enough of them for me. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | This is Donnie Yen's movie debut, and I must say it wasn't bad. However, don't go in expecting "SPL" or "Flash Point" action, because this film was back in the 70's where kung fu films dominated China. I'd give this film a higher rating but the drunken tai chi didn't seem like anything refreshing. It's just regular tai chi with a drunk-acting master (who is actually one of Yuen Wo Ping's brothers). The fight scenes, however, are impressive, but not as great as other films Yuen Wo Ping did during this era, such as "Drunken Master", "Buddhist Fist", or "Snake In Eagle's Shadow". Also it's funny how Donnie Yen is actually doing some comedy in the film and not your typical hardass, like 90% of his other films. This isn't a bad movie and is definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of Donnie Yen or just love kung fu films. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Yuen Wo Ping wacky, with great, inventive fights and funky special effects. Suspend your disbelief and watch this one, preferably with that Bucktooth Jane gal from "Kung Fu Hustle"... | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | If the filmmakers had more money to work with on this production, I think this film would have been a five star movie. Take away a few stars for production values. Other than that, great story and great martial arts choreography by the great Yuen Wo Ping and company. Donnie Yen delivers Tai Chi moves with fantastic flare! | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | You are probably right. | Jeffrey Frawley | | Y | I agree. The merits of this movie go unsung. I like the idea of drunken tai chi. I'd like to see this style against a style like Muay Thai (i.e. Donnie Yen vs. Tony Jaa). | Mad Monkey |

 | | | | Pure Entertainment--everything about this movie is good--even the comedy (which is rare). The fights and the overall style of the movie makes it a must see! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | A decent film for any Yuen Wo Ping fan. This may be Donny Yen's first martial arts film, but displays his Tai Chi fighting style very believably. The fight choreography is not bad but not the best from Yuen Woo Ping. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Love to see a young Donnie Yen. I bought this DVD twice, I love it. A slow showdown, but everything else is very good. Highly recommended, if you like tai chi! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| If you like drunken master by Jackie Chan, you'll love this movie to! Its was Donnie's first film, and I thought it was great! There was so much going on, so many ideas, actions, editing, zooming, close ups, expressions, fast editing, talents, some comedic action, slow motions, realistic martial arts action, kung fu actions, dancing, it goes on...
So much charisma and things going on, that's why its a great Donnie Yen film, especially as it was only his first ever made film.
There were some nice and very decent kicks performed by master Donnie. Also his kung fu in the end is heroic, as well as his kicks. This film definitely makes anyone interested start martial arts or copy Donnie actions and moves e.t.c. I think its a classic Donnie yen movie, though it could of been refined and sorted out a bit more, but back in the 1980's was when a lot of ideas were needed in martial arts kung fu films. Also I still prefer Donnie to do more serious roles, even though its rare to see Donnie joke about and do comedy with martial arts action, so its makes it alright and decent.
You will have watch it find your own opinion, as everyone has different opinions. Fights scenes always great and can be watched again and again like the last fight scene, the middle part is mainly comedy martial arts action, beginning fight scene with Donnie spectacular kicks. I definitely enjoyed it though, and it inspired, influenced me more. |
