Very low budget made-for-TV hopping vampire movie that reminded me too much of "Mr. Vampire 2", the one "Mr. Vampire" movie I didn't really like mainly because all the cute kid stuff really gets in the way of making an effective horror movie. Gordon Liu does a fair job in this--although his kung fu mastery is woefully underused--but even he can't manage to carry this movie through. The term "Rarescope" truly applies to this film, I couldn't find any information about it whether it was made for Japanese or Hong Kong TV. The spoken language is Japanese and feels a bit like a Japanese TV show, but I'm not totally certain. Definitely not a highlight of Gordon Liu's career. If you want hopping vampires, go for the "Mr. Vampire" series. If you want Gordon Liu, stick to his Shaw Brothers films. |
