| Overview: | Matsunaga (Mifune) is tough small-time gangster who takes a bullet during a rival gang war. He makes his way into a doctor's office who treats the wound and in the process discovers Matsunaga has an even bigger problem, tuberculosis. During the lengthy medical treatments the two form a friendship, albeit an uneasy one at best. Meanwhile, Matsunaga's gangster boss is released from prison with aspirations of rejuvenating his rough and tumble crew. Once Matsunaga is discovered ill and fragile, he's terminated from the gang leaving him ostracized by his peers with a seriously bruised ego. In an act of vengeance, he confronts the crime boss and a battle commences ending in fatal consequences. DRUNKEN ANGEL established director Kurosawa (SCANDAL, I LIVE IN FEAR) as a prominent new talent and was the first leading role for legendary Japanese actor Mifune (ROSHOMON.)
