Soaper set in bowling alley. But I can watch most anything Takeshi Kaneshiro does, so there you go.

A very nice TV show, not only because of Takeshi Kaneshiro. It has the right amount of humor, drama, crime and love, and shows lot of all-day problems without being overdramatic or goofy

"The Golden Bowl" weaves a strange kind of spell over you. It's certainly addictive--to the extent that I kept watching the next episode, and the next, and then the next, until the early hours of the morning. Perhaps it is Paul Anka's songs that choreograph so well with the story, or Takeshi Kaneshiro's expressive face, or the simple charm of the story and characters that is so captivating. Whatever it is, "The Golden Bowl" leaves you feeling happy--and with a strange desire to keep singing Paul Anka songs for days after. I loved it!

I ordered this package for only one reason: because I'm a fan of Takeshi Kaneshiro. Therefore I didn't expect much of it, I just waited for the first release with English subtitles. But it was a more than pleasant surprise. It is really, really funny and witty. I loved the dialogue, which was enjoyable not only for people who understand Japanese. The pairing of Kaneshiro and Kuroki works pretty well, and for my western taste it was one of the few Asian TV shows I watched that was neither overdramatic nor goofy. I've seen other TV shows with Kaneshiro (e.g. "Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake") which I considered a real toothache. But "Golden Bowl" is a winner.

The story developement is well done, the characters are lovable--although of course a little bit exaggerated--and it's a nice piece of nostalgia for bowling friends and rock 'n roll lovers. I'd recommend it even to people who aren't as much into Kaneshiro as I am.
