Not my favorite Godzilla movie, but it does deliver with the fights and growling. Wish it were available in Japanese with good English subtitles.

The "Godzilla Millennium" series starts off in fine form with Godzilla doing what he does best: destroy Tokyo and wrestle another giant monster, in this case a shape-shifting UFO. This is pure Godzilla fun throughout and remains as one of my favorite Godzilla movies in his lengthy and venerated series. This was the first Godzilla movie I ever saw in the theatre and has always had a place in my heart for it. It is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

If you're looking for for true entertainment in a Godzilla movie, then this one is for you! After Columbia-TriStar did not get the hoped for results with Godzilla 1998, TOHO rightfully took the helm again in Godzilla productions. Godzilla 2000 Millenium, the first movie in the Millenium series was a step in the right direction. Ignoring any previous Godzilla plot timeline, this movie brings in a new extraterrestrial foe, Orga.

To make it short, as many of you have probably read the lengthened storyline over and over, an ancient spacecraft is found in the bottom of the sea. Upon exposure to light when brought to the surface, Orga is eventually awakened and tries to adapt to our planet using Godzilla's regenerative G cells. As all of Godzilla's foes generally do, Orga meets his demise upon confrontation with the Big G.

What makes this movie unique is that the special effects are a little more modern than in the previous series, although it's great to see the return of the rubber suit, as oppsed to TriStar's CGI graphics. The movie, as I mentioned before, is more entertaining than many of the previous ones. The competition between the father-daughter team tracking Godzilla for study and the Govenment assigned team that wants to destroy him bring an added dimension to the storyline The young girl, a brilliant actress, brings a lot of humor and intentional sarcasm into the script. This is a great change of pace from many of the previous entries. I highly recommend adding this feature to your collection.

An uncut version (usually region 3) with Japanese audio and English subtitles is the preferred way to watch this movie, as less of the humor is lost in translation.

Yes, Yes Godzilla's back. This movie was cretisized in the USA and you may see why. the sceans where Godzilla is walking through the water looks kinda bad and the big battle scean is pretty slow. despite all this, in my opinion G looks better than ever (accept for his crooked mouth but that doesn't make a huge difference). his dorsal spines are jagged and fierce (something most of the Heisie and showa films failed to do) , his atomic ray looks very cool, and he is accually green this time. His monster Orga is pretty cool too. If you have a dvd player, use the sub-titles insted (they are better trust me.) whatch this movie its pretty good.

When I saw the TV ad for G2K, I was friggin happy as hell. I heard rumors all over the internet about a new Godzilla movie after Columbia/Tri-Star screwed up their American Remake, and that TOHO was making a return for the big guy!

Now it's 1999, and the Godzilla Prediction Network (GPN) is studying and tracking Godzilla when he appears on the coast of Nemuro and in his own way, he destroys the city.

Earlier that week, a 60 million year old rock was discovered in the ocean oh Japan, without warning it begins to float and heads for a meeting with Godzilla in Tokai Mura.

Godzilla uses his uses his beefed up CGI atomic breath and breaks the rocks to reveal a UFO!!! The UFO blows Godzilla back into the sea with a hyperblaster but lands and ceases all activities due to the damage caused by Godzilla.

Later, the UFO takes off for Shinjuku where the final battle between the UFO and Godzilla takes place. The UFO transforms into a monster called Orga and proceeds to kick the s**t out of Godzilla.

Toho was going for something new here, and I think they achieved it. G2000, is one of my favorite movies to come out last year. I love the new costume and the head looks friggin' awesome!

The only beef us G-Fans have is the blending over of CG and live action. They looks awkward, but this is Toho's first attempt at using CGI in movies. Hopefully they get it worked out for the next Godzilla movie.

If you plan on buying this, get the DVD and listen to the original language track with subtitles. Dubbed sounds so bad, but that is one of the charms to Godzilla.

This is the latest in the Toho Films series, and it should be noted that this movie is a GODZILLA movie, a genre unto itself. Not only is it an intelligent film, with likeable characters ( the Godzilla Prediction Unit is great, in the enthusiasm of scientists trying to understand Godzilla as a force of nature; besides that, who wouldn't want to be part of the GDU and have that cool Godzilla logo on the side of their transport vehicle? ) and a truly kinetic, enthusiastic script by Hiroshi Kashiwabara and Wataru Mimura--the most telling line of dialogue in the movie, which could be used to describe the love and respect the writers have, occurs when a television reporter comments that the entire proceeding is "like something out of a 1950s science fiction film." And that is the point of this movie, to remind every one of us who grew up on monster movies that in the midst of all the ALIEN-stylized cinematic drool, that the giant UFO perched menacingly over Tokyo, shimmering with mysterious electronic pulsations while Godzilla ( with an underwater swimming scene for Godzilla that is priceless) stomps in for a classic samurai-like duel with the alien craft and its occupant, with all the Man In Suit and b-movie special effects you can stand, is the reason why many of us "creature feature" lovers continue going to the movies TODAY, because we're looking for something like GODZILLA 2000. A movie crafted with exquisite passion and respect, both for its subject and for its audience. Thrill to the magnificent musical score (the best I've heard in a film this year), and the superior direction that provides Godzilla with power and heroism (yes, heroism; Godzilla's reasons for alternately destroying Tokyo, but fighting against alien forces to save it, demonstrates what all us monster freaks know: Godzilla is intelligent, and has his reasons). I dare you to go and see Godzilla blast away with his atomic breath and not be ready to come up out of your seat with joy. This movie is undiluted greatness, from beginning to end.
