| The talents of an impressive cast are sadly wasted in this dreary triad/corruption thriller.
Set in a town in the New Territories the plot revolves around the election of a new mayor. A crime syndicate with business interests in the area tries to influence the outcome of the proceedings in favour of their candidate, played by Chan Wai Man, through intimidation and bribery. Leading a police investigation into allegations is Anthony Wong who appears as a sort of strange priest/policeman ( I could'nt really work it out).
Although the cover of the DVD pictures all the characters brandishing guns there is very little action in this film. What there is comes in the last ten minutes mixed with some badly choreographed martial arts. I found the storyline to be tedious and the acting, on the whole, to be pretty wooden. Not even the presence of the mighty Anthony could rescue this film.
I can't really think of anything else to say about this movie except that I haven't be so bored for quite some time. That'll teach me to never judge a DVD by its cover. |
