Very dark and ominous. The fighting is good but I did not like all the bloodletting (more than usual for Chang Cheh--yes, it is possible!). It does have a certain mystery element to it. Not bad, but not one of my favorites.

Sorry, but this one is only passable in my opinion. I bought this based on the ratings. Not enough fights--mostly weapons, which is fine, but I expected a little more I guess. I am starting to be less impressed with every Venoms movie I see. Good examples for me are "Ten Tigers Of Kwangtung" and "Crippled Avengers".

Good film with three of the Venoms. This was a dark, angry, mean spirited film about a notoriously violent group of men who rob, rape and murder on a whim. I especially like Chiang Shieng in this one. He wasn't silly, or playful in any way--he was all business.

This film was a little disturbing in tone, and bloody. It also features some of the best weapons choreography I have ever seen featuring the trident! The Venom gang featuring three old favorites Kuo Chue, Lu Feng, and Chiang Sheng do their usual great job of acting and fighting. Wong Lik and Chen Siu Ho (honorary Venoms), also turn in great performances. A must-see for all Venom fans.

Despite a slightly convoluted story, this is a solid VENOMS entry. Probably the bloodiest of the VENOMS flicks - certainly Chang Cheh was not shy in the use of red liquids! Basic story follows Chiang Sheng's (aka Cutie Pie) character as he and his 'posse' search for a clan of masked killers in a small town, which is by the way infested with seedy types. Think Five Deadly Venoms - it's an askew rehash of that classic. As in that former movie Lu Feng (aka Centipede in FDV) plays convincing 'baddie' (if obvious). This film is packed with action. Some really fantastic choreography by the core VENOMS makes this a treat for any old school Fu fan, although if you are turned off by the trident as a weapon you probably will tire of this film as the trident is the central weapon of the masked clan. Yet there is plenty of swordplay and hand-to-hand Fu and a high body count. This is classic Kung Fu Theatre stuff!

I love this movie. I think the five Venoms are the best performers in their time of movie making. They dress nice and give the audience their best stunt performance. I have most of the five Venoms movies, especially Shaw Brothers collection.

I like this one better than Kid with the Golden Arm. The final showdown is great and Lu Feng never ceases to amaze me.

This is, in my opinion, the greatest movie starring a majority of the Venoms ever made, and that is indeed saying a lot.

It is inexplicable to me me why people would complain that too much of the fighting is done with tridents. The virtuouso mastery of this weapon on display in the film is absolutely breathtaking; after seeing this movie you will wonder if there is any weapon Kuo Chui and Lu Feng can't master.

As with most Venoms films, the acting in this film is top-notch. Of course the choreography and fighting are absolutely brilliant as well. The intricacy of the final fight will have you wondering out loud how long it must haven taken to choreograph something so complex.

The fight scenes are not the only things that make this movie so worthwhile. It surprises at every turn, whether it be with its genuinely suspenseful mystery elements or the unexpected deaths of key characters. This movie will keep you guessing most of the way through.

I cannot shower enough praise on this awesome film. This is a definite must-purchase for Venoms fans and old-school fans. Absolutely brilliant.

This is my favorite Venoms movie without a doubt. The end fight is bananas! The first time I saw it, I thought everything but the kitchen sink had been thrown at me. Spiked doors, shooting poison, SPINNING BUDDHAS OMG!!! Thank goodness the film has been remastered and I can see it in all its widescreen glory. The acting was great, the costumes and art direction were top notch. Did I mention the final fight? Lu Feng (my favorite) was at his best, but I have to give a shout out to Cho Ku as the new #2 chief. A must-have!!!

I wasn't a fan of the trident, but it was something different and I appreciated the skill involved in using it skillfully. I was happy with the dark story and the performance of Phillip Kwok and Chin Siu Ho. It was an enjoyable film and, even though two of the Venoms are missing, a must-have for any Venoms fan's collection.

"Masked Avengers" is not quite up to the level of the Venoms' best ("Five Deadly Venoms," "Return of the Five Deadly Venoms" and "Flags of Iron"), but it is a very worthwhile film. Lo Meng and Sun Chien are absent, but Kuo Chui and Lu Feng give fine performances. I wasn't very impressed by Chiang Sheng, but not very much was asked of him in this film, which is probably the darkest and least joyful Venoms movie.

One of the best Venoms movies. Glad to finally own this in its best quality. I watched it in the cinema and was awestruck by the violently fast-paced fight scenes. The storyline is a mixture of mystery and kung fu, in a way similar to FIVE VENOMS.

Here the gore is pretty extreme, the fights are excellently choreographed, and the characters are unique, especially those of the villains so called MASKED AVENGERS. You should love the final fight in the villains' lair--spectacular!

"The Masked Avengers" is very entertaining. The Venoms place their weaponry on display once again and do not disappoint. With a little help from Chien Siu Hou, the film shows once again Chang Chieh's ability to milk the talent he's working with.

The Trident spear used here in abundance is a weapon that takes great skill to maneuver, and all Venoms are up to the task. I noticed the long takes, with multiple movements, which are simply magnificent.

Check out MA to add to the list of Venom-fare and you will be glad you did.

If you are a Venoms fan, this is a must-have in your collection. Despite the fact that Lo Meng and Sun Chien not present, this movie still kicks ass. Chiang Sheng leads a group of heroes into a town to find the identities and whearabouts of the Masked Avengers. There is plenty of mystery for the heroes in finding the top chiefs and even finding out who the 3rd chief is. Lu Feng and Wong Lik play the typical conniving villians, while Kuo Choi proves to be a valuable asset to the heroes. Tridents are the main weapons of villains, but Chiang Sheng has the best "hybrid" weapon(s) that go from a fan, to mini spears and a belt, to metal hoop/ring. The last scene has a great showdown in an elaborate "chamber" that has booby traps galore. Great fight choreography from the Venoms camp and plenty of action and suspense to keep the martial arts fan glued to the screen.

This movie is kind of like "Five Deadly Venoms"--clever, creative and mysterious. This movie is very virulent and nuts, but this is one of my favorite Venoms films ever. Great fights and good story.

Nearing the end of Chang Cheh's career, his films started take a darker tone with characters getting killed off in a variety of weird ways. This film is no exception and the amount of violence at the beginning of the film tends to be a bit disturbing even for a Chang Cheh film. However, when the main Venoms fight (Kuo Chiu, Lu Feng, and Chiang Sheng) it's always worth watching.

There's a saying that goes 'If I have to explain it, then you wouldn't understand'.

Masked Avengers deserves five stars for many reasons. In the restored version, the story, acting, and dialogue pull you in and don't let go. The creepy atmosphere created by the lighting, music and violence keep you on the edge of your seat. The weapon fighting is the best I've ever seen, period.

You will be blown away by the speed and dynamics of the fighting choreography. The Venoms were at their brutal best in Masked Avengers. Watch it and find your senses hoist on the petard of a golden trident!

Three venoms films were made in 81'. Sword stained with royal blood, brave archer 3 and this movie. At this point in the venoms career the choreography is so tight and accurate there is only room for complete perfection. The movie moves well, but not a lot of fighting until this wonderful finale. The thing that makes this movie and the other two films of 81' is the finale fight. Chiang sheng in my opinion steals the show once again. And although chiang has always been my inspiration out of the venoms it goes without question that each of these films were made with a high level of respect and quality of martial arts.

Most of the popular Venoms appear here in a convoluted story of a masked gang of trident-wielding villians. No Lo Meng (Toad) or Sun Chien (Scorpion) here --- my favorites. With a large cast of Venom and Venom-like characters, most of the movie fits into place. However, very little hand-to-hand fighting is to be seen --- the weapon of choice, obviously, here, is the trident, an infrequently seen kung fu weapon. Boasting undoubtedly some of the best, if not the best, trident fight choreography ever staged, executed by none other than the Venoms, there is little to go wrong here --- if you like the trident. This is truly a trident lovers feast fest. Personally, I'm not that big on the trident, so I didn't appreciate the movie as much as some others might. Add to that, my favorite Venoms are not in the movie. Therefore I just can't give the movie my highest rating. But its still a solid Venom flick.
