This film exemplifies what good filmmaking is all about. It's a story of people finding meaningful connections with each other in a small Japanese community in the late '50s, as even the country itself is re-defining itself. Brilliant direction, acting, effects...a beautiful score, it's got it all, a true gem. |

| Overview: | The residents of 3rd Street are working-class folks, like the bluff Suzuki (Shinichi Tsutsumi), who runs an auto body shop, and his petite, perky wife Tomoe (Yakushimaru Hiroko), who has her hands full with their rambunctious son, Ippei. A new addition to this happy household is Mutsuko (Maki Horikita), nicknamed "Roku," a fresh-faced country girl from Aomori, who has come to the big city expecting to work at a big company named "Suzuki Auto" -- and barely hides her disappointment when she discovers it to be a glorified garage.
