After "Audition" and "Ichi The Killer", I had great expectations for this movie. What it delivers is essentially the "greatest hits" of Asian horror. There's more than a passing resemblance to "The Ring", with bits of "Ju-On" and other films thrown in for good measure.

The film revolves around mobile 'phones. A girl has a message left on her mobile 'phone answering service - only it's been left by herself and in the future! To make matters worse, it ends with a blood curdling scream! Well, it soon turns out that the message is the girl's final words on this mortal coil.

The girl is not alone. It's only a matter of time before the body count starts rising and a race against time begins to solve the mystery of the bizarre calls.

Despite being more than a shade Ringu-clone-esquire, I heartily enjoyed this film. It has some great set-pieces (including a memorable death), some spooky moments, a few "jump" sequences, etc. What the film didn't deliver, though, was any real fear. It was a case of "seen it all before" (a criticism that some leveled at "Ju-On").

The plot unravels in a logical manner and there's a decent pay off. It may not be a future classic, but this is a very well made example of Asian horror cinema.

Pretty good horror film with an urban legend as part of the theme. I personally thought this one was good in-your-face type of horror compared to its two sequels. And the gore, surprisingly, was toned down, so I guess Miike just wanted to freak you out this time instead of grossing you out.

Hey you horror lovers; "One Missed Call" is awesome... It is real suspenseful. I especially like the part when the poor misfortunate girl gets the call. But this girl was put on national TV to help her (so they thought) live, but what they saw words could not explain...in fact the poor director was stunned and sat there with an awful look on his face. Yep, this movie is real spooky. Get it.

I have to say, I'm disappointed in this Miike flick. I know, I know... I don't like horror movies to begin with, they don't scare me (duh, they're movies... I know they're not real)... But this one was just bad. It was like a bad, Miike directed rip-off of The Ring, with Cell Phones instead of Video Tapes. It just spells bad. The acting was fine, and the atmosphere was pretty cool, but the story just bored me nearly to tears. Ooooooh, people getting voice mail messages from themselves in the future that's recorded as they get killed by some mysterious dead kid. Spooooooky. Whatever. It was just lame. When will I learn that even a director like Miike can make a load of crap when he tries to be scary. Avoid this movie unless you enjoy watching implausible and impossible scenarios about dead people getting revenge on the living through electronic devices of modern convenience.
