Shaw Brothers black magic at its best: bug eating, doll stabbing, ooze oozing, and blood gushing. More of a coherent storyline than "Boxer's Omen", which is in part a sequel to this film, the fight between the Buddhist and the black wizard at the end of this film is the same fight in "Boxer's Omen". Definitely falls under the category of "love it or hate it", while easier to get into than "Boxer's Omen", it is still pretty hard for the casual viewer to watch with all the gore and bug eating, but that is really what makes these films great--when else are you going to see insanity like this? Definitely not as cruel as torture porn, but really bizarre to Western sensibilities--but again, that is all the fun of these kind of movies. |
