 | | | | I just watched this movie for the second time, and you know what, it was pretty good. Some movies are just better the second time around. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Way more fun than "Godzilla". The smaller monster gives you a better sense of scale than a guy in a rubber suit smashing models. Some of the later scenes with the family get a little melodramatic, but the monster and its attacks (especially at the beginning) are fantastic. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Like it says on the box: "this IS one of the best monster movies in years"! Certainly more intriguing than "Cloverfield". Excellent effects and plot twists. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Outstanding film! Purchased both versions and enjoyed both. Excellent graphics and visual effects. Fantastic new approach to pollution and its effects on nature and the adverse impact on mankind. I like the original version with English subtitles and the English dubbed version when I don't want to read the screen. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Pathetic attempt at some kind of horror film with slapstick comedic elements. Another Korean film with first rate production values and a story that makes no sense, creates no fear, and generates no compassion for any of the characters. Two of the worst "American actor cameos" ever... I can't go on. It is too depressing. It's like these people went to the Moe Howard School of Drama. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | The Host takes a position in my list of favorite giant monster movies. It's got a startling and original fast-moving monster (courtesy of WETA workshop), some entertaining and moving Korean dramedy, and a cast of characters that you grow to like but that surprise you in the end. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | I would have enjoyed this movie much more if only the story did not have the obvious political attack on the U.S. Some scenes also didn't make much sense, like the use of agent orange on the creature. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | An interesting mix of thriller, horror and comedy. Though, ultimately to be remade by Hollywood (and probably ruined), you're better off getting the movie now and seeing it in its originality. Good acting and great special effects tell a story that will leave you waiting to see what happens next. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Great monster, quirky humor, nice character development. Really enjoyable take on the classic "toxic-waste induced monster terrorizing the city" genre.
I got caught up in the hype and The Host delivered. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | WOW! I went into this movie expecting nothing and walked out pleasantly surprised! This is one of the best, most original and one of the most scariest monster movies in a long long time. Highly recommended! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| A great monster movie/government conspiracy/comedy/family drama hybrid. Sound appealing? I found it so. Every once in a while a film comes along, skirting the usual classifications. “The Host” is one of those movies. It’s refreshing to find a film avoiding the usual traps of falling neatly into one genre. I love the dark humor and subversive nature of this film. If you find dark humor, artsy symbolism, or not-so-cheery happenings distasteful, take about a star and a half away from my review.
In a previous review, I read something about how the movie sags in the second half. I completely disagree. These were characters I came to know and feel for, which cemented my interest throughout the film as suspense built. Suspense is the key word here, not action. This movie has more characterization in ten minutes than a typical U.S. horror film has throughout its entire length.
I do agree with the assessment of the usual monster movie fans being disappointed, as this is a very atypical monster movie. If you want to see a movie with a furious pace of action, with thrilling sequence after thrilling sequence, please go see the latest Hollywood extravaganza, where special effects will replace such nuisances as story and characterization. |
