 | | | | I have this movie (of course), and I think it is pretty good. First off, any Jackie Chan movie is great. But what made this one worth watching was the scene where Jackie fights through the hall of wooden fighters. It's pretty cool. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Pretty good kung fu flick. Good fight scenes and stuff. Nothing much to say about it. I wouldn't recommend it though. Nothing much to say about it....... I guess it was pretty good. It could've used more fancy footwork, but it's good..... | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | This was your usual Kung Fu theater quality film. By "Kung Fu Theater" I mean that there are lots of training sequences set to old style music, a shaolin temple, a few flashbacks, and revenge. There were really only two things that distinguished this film from others of its type: first there was the throng of wooden robots that the shaolin used as their final test for membership. These "Shaolin Wooden Men" actually reacted to trainees trying to pass through their ranks, which was amusing. The second thing that made this film different from the rest was that the protagonist (Jackie Chan) didn't speak throughout most of the film. He had to express himself entirely through his actions and expressions, something most actors would have difficulty with... | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| I wonder.....if Lo Wei could have only gotten his act together and produced ONE film that incorporated all the GOOD aspects of Chan's early stuff might he have made Jackie a star a long time ago? I say yes. This film does what no other Lo Wei film ever did. It actually, successfully provided a plot that was coherent, understandable, and likable. Unfortunately the traditional stuff that Jackie is known for is missing....Not much fighting, not much humor, and Jackie only speaks at the end. If only Lo Wei knew what we know now, "Let Jackie do HIS thing and you're guaranteed a hit". Oh well, no use crying over Lo Wei. The one thing that rather bothered me about this film was the uncanny likeness that Jackie had to Bruce Lee. Maybe it was the hair, but I think Lo was trying to cash in on THE LOOK. What ever the case, I hold no grudges against JC personally. Lord help anyone who does, 'cause Jackie could kick their collective butts into next year!) |

| Shaolin Wooden Men are very well known, because of the extensive use of the name "Shaolin".. In many kung fu films a man enters a Shaolin Temple to avenge his father, brother, master, sister, dog, cat, horse, you name it. In this film it's still the same. I think this film does not deserve the title Shaolin Wooden Men. It's a horrible film, the film quality is bad , and the costumes are dull looking. What was with that old man in the chain's hair, was it like a wig, it looked mess up. I loath this film immensely it does not have the right to bear the name Shaolin in it. Lo Wei really screwed this one up, what was wrong with it you ask? I'll tell you, the film had absolutely no plot, the film had corny wooden men costumes that looked like cardboard Halloween costumes. That old man in the chains that Jackie kills at the end was like "Bring me some bread!" "Now wine!" "More wine!" "Ahhhhh good now lets teach you Kung Fu!" This movie could have been extremely good, but needed a better director, better co-stars, and should have left that fat-guy out. Ancient China should have hired more soldiers for those stupid gangs. There somehow always learning Kung Fu, and terrorizing people. So some guy has to join a Shoalin Temple. Come-on, couldn't the Manchu's created some type of security force or something. I extremely disliked this piece of paperweight, and it still wouldn't fit it's purpose. |

 | | | | Given that we're still talking about a Lo Wei film here, it's not too bad. The mute thing is almost cute -- watching Jackie nod his head overenthusiastically to get his point across, for example. There is something of a plot, though it's completely formulaic; what else do we expect from this era of kung fu movie? It seems to be my nature to take these films with a huge grain of salt, so given the fact that it falls in the "bad kung fu movie" genre, it's pretty good. One thing that really stood out for me though: this is the first Jackie film I remember seeing with the red flashback filter to inform you that what you're seeing is actually a memory. Unfortunately, it wasn't the last... | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | I was always curious to see this movie, but from reading those reviews I backed out. The reason I did was because it was a Lo Wei film. But I got the chance to see it and I gotta tell ya, it ain't that good. The title isn't that much of a significance since he battles the Wooden Men halfway through the movie. Anyway, that Wooden men sequence is pretty dumb and boring. The second half of the movie after the Wooden Men is such a bore, I had my finger on the Fwd button until it ended. I would recommend this movie to people who are interested in early-Jackie flicks like me, but those who want good kung fu or action movies better turn away from this one. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |
