I just watched this movie and I think I'll watch it again. Was kind of skeptical about the story but instantly became a believer. A genuine feel-good movie. You'll laugh, cry and enjoy yourself

I really liked this movie. While authentic hula in Hawaii can be awesome in sight and sounds, the version shown here is at the superficial level for tourists. Here, it is the device to awaken a group of girls strenght to try something new to save their town. The Iwate townfolks have an odd dialect that may be a mixture of Korean and Japanese and the actors do it very well.

If you are looking for a great film that also recalls some of director Yamada's output from the 70's then this may be it. The overview blurb on the page is fairly accurate in its description but this film is much much more than that.

I must say that I somewhat disagree with what HKFlix says. It may have those shortcomings but the pluses make up for the minuses here IMO - I don't think you can say that about most of the current crop of films coming out of Asia these days.

A well rounded, family-friendly film.
