 | | | | Saved from total obscurity to DVD, "Ringing Sword" is very standard fare of old-school Wu Xia with your typical mysterious strangers, a tale of intrigue and revenge, lost relatives and the maintaining of honour, and that's about it. Unimaginative plot, almost extinct martial arts choreography, and lazy looking fighting take the edge off the action. On the plus side, the landscapes are beautiful, there's no corny looking studio sets, and the bad guys sure do look like kick-ass. There's a lot worse movies out there from the genre, but there's nothing that makes this one shine above any basic Wu Xia swashbuckling epic. Worth a look as a history lesson of Wu Xia, but there's very little to come back to. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | I probably would have given this 1969 Taiwanese wuxia feature two and a half stars for the colorful characters, but it dragged in places. This film was okay if you keep in mind the time it was made, but there are a lot better wuxia classics out there. This is for hardcore wuxia fans only. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |
