| This film and "Masked Avengers" rank as the Venoms' greatest masterpieces in my opinion, and unlike "Masked Avengers", all the Venoms appear here, including the "honorary 6th Venom", Wang Li.
This movie has everything: a multitude of weapons utilized in brilliantly choreographed scenes, great hand-to-hand combat, breathtaking acrobatics; all the physical qualities one associates with the Venoms are here.
And while the plot does evolve into one of revenge, it has much more meat to it than the standard "you killed my teacher, now I'm going to kill you" fare.
Lu Feng is at his sleazy, scheming best as the villian in this film, and he has the kung fu skills to back up his evil machinations. And unlike most Venoms films, all of them play major roles, including Sun Chien who is often inexplicably in the background in many Venoms films. His increased presence makes for some great kicking action. And though there is quite a bit of bloody violence, as usual with the Venoms, there are also some funny, lighthearted comedic moments that help to flesh out the characters and make them more than just two-dimensional killing machines.
This film is an absolute must-have for all old-school fans; it is one of the best ever. Highly recommended. |

| Every Venoms' movie has a different plot, which keeps it interesting, though all incorporate the revenge cliche. As long as Shaw Brothers produces, Chang Cheh directs, Ni Kuang scripts, and the Venoms play, a kung fu movie becomes as good as it gets.
This entry tells about a young kung fu master (Lu Feng), the sole heir to his wealthy family's flourishing security escort services, who begins to take the wrong turns for the sake of keeping his declining escort businesses run. With the advance of guns, Lu Feng's services that rely on skilled fighters are losing their competition.
Added to this, Lu Feng's haunting paranoia of losing his fame as the much revered Golden Spear has him conduct deadly duels with other fighters in his courtyard, only to have them killed brutally.
To maintain his declining services, he plans to take over, by any means, a land owned by another of his late father's business competitor whose son happens to be a good martial artist (Lo Meng). Lo Meng refuses to sell so Lu Feng resorts to trickery by luring four skilled fighters and ruffians, too (Kwo Chui, Chiang Sen, Sun Chien and Wang Li) to get rid of Lo Meng.
The four ruffians fight against Lo Meng but they eventually befriend each other after knowing Lo Meng's side of story. The five then often meet to spar in an abandoned temple.
Realizing his plan has failed, Lu Feng has Kwo Chui framed by having his wooden pole he uses to spar with Lo Meng filled with dynamite that explodes and kills the latter.
The plot moves fast from this point and reaches the climax when two of the remaining ruffians battle the evil golden spear in a duel to the death.
There are some cool movements made by the Golden Spear as he attacks the opponents.
This one is surely not to be missed! |

 | | | | If you're a Venoms/Shaw Brothers "old school" fan this film will not disappoint. The Venoms do their thing and the ending is non-stop action. | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | An exact rating. | ap2 |

 | | | | Another great Venoms film. This one tells the story of an evil man who yearns to fight martial artists to death and consume the land for prosperity, but Lo Meng ultimately refuses. The fights are great as usual. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | This is an excellent showcase for all five Venoms. As usual, Kuo Chui is the lead, and the most skillful protagonist; Chiang Sheng's acrobatics are well displayed; Lo Meng's abilities at unarmed combat are better shown than is usually the case; and Sun Chien's superleg gets a good workout. As is usually the case, Lu Feng's villain gets a chance to outfight any other Venom and to display astonishing facility with weapons. It is possible that this is Lu Feng's best performance ever. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| I was actually suprised by this movie, considering how I don't typically like movies in this era. I tend to watch more Shaolin or "costumed" era kung fu movies. With that said, you get to view wang Li, Sun Chien, Chiang Sheng, and Kuo Choi as starving martial artists who get beat up by restaurant owners for skipping out on paying the bill. Eventually, they are befriended by Lu Feng, who tricks them into thinking he's looking out for their best interests, but would rather use them as manpower to kill Lo Meng. His plot is foiled and resorts to switching out Kuo Choi's staff, which is packed with dynamite (don't think too hard on this one, just pretend it makes sense). As a result, Kuo Choi accidently kills Lo Meng and causes a rift with the other fellas. Eventually, Chiang Sheng and Kuo Choi find out the truth and band together to take on Lu Feng in the finale. Solid effort by the Venom boys. Good fights and choreography as always. |

 | | | | Another classic Venoms must-have to add to your collection; I'm glad to have this film. This and "Two Champions Of Death" are the perfect double-bill. It's great to see Lo Meng and Chiang Shien inhabit their characters so well. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | The plot dosen't seem to make sense; but, looking past that, the Venom mob are in good form. In my opinion, although it's not their greatest effort, it's still worth a look. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | I bought this because Chang Cheh films with the Venoms in them have been mainly hits for me so it was no surprise that I liked this one too. The fight choreography is what you expect in a Chang Cheh film. I liked Lu Feng's combo long-handled broadsword and fan fight scene. Chiang Sheng's double broadsword was very good too. The film's style is similar to other Chang Cheh films like Avenging Warriors of Shaolin and Two Champions of Shaolin. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |
