| Overview: | "We are the hellcats nobody likes! Man-Eaters on motorbikes! We own this road so you better get lost when you hear the roar of our cut-out exhaust! Bug off or you'll find that you have blown your mind! Get off the road!" Yes, that's the title tune (and advance warning) of Herschell Gordon Lewis' ode to red-hot mamas from hell, She-Devils on Wheels, a truly berserk biker flick quite unlike any other.
The Man-Eaters are an all-gal motorcycle gang who "treat men like they're slabs of meat hanging on a hook in a butcher shop!" Led by tough-as-nails Queen (BETTY CONNELL), this "bunch of horny hog riders" spend their time terrorizing a local community, having Saturday night orgies on the clubhouse floor, and racing each other for first pick at their male-groupie "Stud Line."
Unfortunately, good girl Karen (Christie Wagner) doesn't want any old stud. She wants Bill (David Harris). But since "steady meat" is discouraged, the gang gives her an ultimatum: she can either drag Bill behind her cycle, or she can take Bill's place. Poor Bill, of course, is quickly turned into a typical H.G. Lewis-style hamburger patty. "We ain't no daisy-pulling bunch of broads! We're the Man-Eaters!"
But when the girls' favorite drag strip is invaded by Joe-Boy (John Weymer) and his "stud-bum" gang of hot-rodders, war is declared! Round One: The girls beat the shit out of the guys, stack 'em in a pile and, presumably, pee on them! Round Two: Joe-Boy and company kidnap newly-initiated Honey Pot (Nancy Lee Noble) and return her bloody, "carved up," and with a ring through her nose! Round Three: The gals string a wire across the road which decapitates Joe-Boy (via one of the greatest phoney severed heads in motion picture history)!
All of which ends with Queen rappin' right to the audience: "We don't owe nobody nothin' and we don't make no deals! We're swinging chicks on motors and we're Man Eaters on wheels!" But please note: while the girls wallow in sex and violence, they refuse to use profanity.
Shot in Miami back-to-back with Just for the Hell of It and reportedly featuring real-life biker babes in the cast, She-Devils on Wheels is an outrageous drive-in classick and one of Herschell G.'s most popular films. (It was even picked up by American International and released on a double bill with the first Billy Jack film, Born Losers!) The script was written by ALLISON LOUISE DOWNE who, in addition to writing the Blood Feast screenplay and starring in nudie flicks like Nature's Playmates under the name "Vickie Miles," was also a former Miami probation officer!
