Lovely little throwback to the Hong Kong horror/gore/exploitation genre of the late 70's and early 80's, which to me is one of the most enjoyable ones in the world of wild-side cinema. This one brings back some lovely memories, and the execution is pretty well done. Grim take on the subject is happily free of all the goofing around and any slapstick humour. I'd have liked to see the effects made without any obvious (cheap) CGI, but you just have to accept that they are here to stay, and that's it.
Fairly recommended to any horror buffs, and especially those who like the originals that influenced this one, such as "Black Magic", "Seeding of a Ghost", "Boxer's Omen", etc. |
