| Overview: | Jackie (Kate Dickie) works as a CCTV security operator in a working class area of Glasgow. Each day she sits before a bank of television screens, keeping watch over every corner of life in the community. One day a man appears on her monitor, a man she thought she'd never see again - a man she never wanted to see again. Now she feels compelled to confront him, putting herself before the camera's eye, and bringing her face to face with a world and a past she'd long kept at a distance.
Winner of the 2006 Cannes Jury Prize, this stunning feature debut by Oscar-winning director Andrea Arnold (WASP, best live-action short, 2005) is an atmospheric and intense thriller about pain and retribution that lingers long after the credits roll. Featuring a powerful, gutsy lead performance by Kate Dickie (who bested Helen Mirren for Best Actress at the British Independent Film Awards) and intensely beautiful cinematography, RED ROAD screened at the Cannes, Sundance and Toronto film festivals.
Uniquely gripping and profoundly emotional, Andrea Arnold's RED ROAD heralds the arrival of a major new filmmaker.
