A gritty tale of a father trying to keep his life together with his son, despite the departure of the boy's mother and a gambling debt that he can't pay. Aaron Kwok's performance is perhaps worth the Golden Horse he won for this role.

This is truly a gem of a film. It captures perfectly the struggle of a man with nothing to lose and nothing more to gain raising his son the best he can. Human nature is beautfully captured with a hauntning quality in this fine film, at the end of a life or the beginning of one, we just cannot know why we do the things we do, but that we are only human.
