| Arcanum Entertainment has teamed up with cult movie guru Johnny Legend to bring you "Deadly Doubles", an ongoing series of double-feature DVDs showcasing the obscure and bizarre.
Volume Two features England's answer to Karloff & Lugosi rolled into one. Tod Slaughter made his film debut (at age 50!) directing and starring in the first of many cinematic renditions of the popular theater plays that he had been staging across Britain for many years.
"Murder In The Red Barn" (1935) is the story of the infamous 19th century Maria Marten murder. After killing Maria to avoid a scandal, the Squire William Corder (Slaughter) buries the body in a red barn during a raging storm and challenges God himself to "Wake her now if you can!"
Slaughter was back in the thick of period melodrama again with 1939's "The Face At The Window". Set in 1880's France, a series of unsolved murders have the country panic stricken. Fantastic stories of Le Loup (a man-wolf) and a wave of terror inspire this "old school" thriller.
