Not a bad example of the Swordsman films. It's a little slow to get going, but the last 30 minutes are excellent, with all the twists and turns in the story. Overall recommended.

What I like about Joseph Kuo's earlier films is that he gives some kind of significance in storytelling in his films. Most of his early Wuxia Pien always have a dramatic ending, giving the story meaning.

I enjoy these low budget (from a Chinese/Taiwanese stand-point) swordplay films, but I never came across one that was titillating. so don't expect (because I assume you don't care) much of a review from me with these films.

Good stuff for swordplay fans: nifty special effects, a compelling story, and great acting. It loses a star for being hard to follow in the middle section.

YI would knock it back a 1/2 star, but everything you said was right, especially the part about being hard to follow in the middle section. I also had issue with the subtitles; white subtitles on a white background make them hard to read sometimes.William Giordanella
