| This movie is near "My Sassy Girl" territory in terms of enjoyment. Unlike other romance comedies where the slightly dumpy guy gets the hot girl, the twist this time is that the hot girl and dumpy guy are manga freaks which sets them away from the outside world. This movie feels like it was written from a guy's point of view. The girl is the aggressive pursuer while the guy is the unwilling participant. Manga plays a major role in this movie. If you don't get fandom, conventions and cosplay, it won't leave you out of the loop but it will help to have some background in it. The girl is a part-time manga writer while the guy is a full-time manga creator. However his medium is through rocks. No one is supposed to get what it means but it's so funny because he keeps hoping that one day people will his work instead of viewing it as a half-completed garden diorama.
No one is normal in this movie. Everyone has so many flaws that they seem normal in comparison. Funny scenes involve the initial cosplaying episode in her apartment; the anime convention and the final scene in the convention center that will equal parts break your heart and make you laugh. This movie is as colorful as "Nana" but with an actual story and characters that are fun to watch onscreen.
