Nice follow-up to Kurosawa's 1943 film follows the same main character, Saam Chee, as he pits his Judo skills against an American boxer nicknamed "killer". He struggles with the rules of his dojo that forbid public fighting. |

| Plot: | In this government-suggested sequel, Sugata again grows as a judo master, and demonstrates his (and by extension, all Japanese) superiority to the foreign warrior.

| Overview: | In 1887, the Japanese culture is insulted by American military imperialists. Against this backdrop of hostility to the Japanese population, a frail rickshaw driver being assaulted by an American sailor is saved when Judo master Sanshiro steps in. In response, the embassy decides that a boxing match between the US and Japan will help to restore national pride. Sanshiro will fight, but his spirit is restless for peace. Kurosawa explores the inner conflicts of man in this excellent sequel.
