Five Shaolin Masters All Content Used With Permission. ![]() ![]() I purchased this film for nostalgic reasons and boy was it not the best choice. I am a fan of the Shaw Brothers so I knew what I was getting myself into. The storyline was good, but the film seemed to drag on at times and I have seem better choreography in some of the other SB films. It's a classic and a keeper, but just not their best. ![]() Not a horrible flick but for the line-up of stars it should've been much better. -Johnnie Freeze (see my profile) ![]() ![]() Great at the end, but too long. ![]() "Five Shaolin Masters" is probably the best film in Chang Cheh's Shaolin cycle and a great film in its own right. It also has one of the best scores for a martial arts film I have heard in awhile.
![]() I'm gonna' go against the tide and say this movie is overhyped. I thought this was a mediocre film at best. "Shaolin Temple" was way better in my opinion. Yes there's lots of action throughout the movie, but it seemed like something was missing to draw me into the movie more. The plot is standard Shaolin rebels vs. Manchus. If you are a Fu Sheng/Chi Kuan Chun/David Chiang/Ti Lung fan, you will like this; but if you're expecting it to be on par with "Shaolin Temple", don't be (amazing what a two-year difference in choreography can make). I will say that David Chiang puts on a decent performance with the whip chain. ![]() It's a Shaw Brothers film--of course it's great! Great fighting scenes with great kung fu. Love it! -Warrior Cleric (see my profile) ![]() This was an excellent film and a definite kung fu classic! I recommend it to any fan of the genre. Great scenes and actors. ![]() Probably the best kung fu movie--ever!! I love this movie and, as I have always said, Fu Sheng is the best. ![]() I've seen better!!!! ![]() One of my favorite greats of all time. Storyline, music, and main characters are great, but some of the supporting casts are not quite there yet, quite fake. Overall, I love the music and pictures and setting. ![]() ![]() Movie was very good. ![]() This is the movie that started it all for me. Great story, great fight scenes. A must for any martial arts lover's collection. ![]() ![]() Classic. ![]() The film that introduced me to Shaw Brothers Films, Shaolin, and martial arts action. This is a true classic and my sentimental favorite, it stands the test of time. ![]() Excellent movie. ![]() Another classic Shaw film, all-star cast, too many names to mention. The copy I have--don't laugh--on VHS is called "Death Chamber". In my all time top 20. -Kung Fu Classic Viewer (see my profile) ![]() Classic! Get this movie before it's gone and you can't. A showcase of the great Lau Kar Leung's Lam Sai Wing line of Hung Gar Kung Fu. Da Tang and Choy Lay Fut kung fu are also used by the brave Shaolin layman to fight the evil Manchu henchmen. Chi Kwan Chun, Fu Sheng, David Chiang, Ti Lung, and Meng Fei are the good guys--the greats of old school Shaw brothers kung fu films. Wei Lung Wei is traitor number one, the evil ranked number seven fighter of the Shaolin temple, the dastardly "Ma Fu Yi". The kung fu is great! What more can you want? Order this film today! And remember... "If we all lift one finger- we can overthrow the Ching!"
![]() Some consider this Chang Cheh epic a sequel to "Shaolin Temple" a.k.a. "Death Chambers". I consider it a standalone tale all by itself. This film has great action sequences as David Chiang, Ti Lung, Fu Sheng, Chi Kuan Chun, and Meng Fei escape the burning of Shaolin temple, perfect their skills, and take on the evil Manchu government! By all means view "Shaolin Temple" first if possible, but you can enjoy this without having seen the other. ![]() -plumflowerfist (see my profile) ![]() ![]() ![]() Great story and great action. ![]() Although it came out 4 or 6 years prior, "Five Shaolin Masters" is the sequel to "Shaolin Temple" ("Death Chambers"). The story is historically significant and even touching, the martial arts incredible. Many of the Shaw Brothers heroes and villains are in this one. It is good to see Meng Fei hold his own next to some big names. My favorites are Ti Lung, Johnny Wang, and Chi Kuan Chun, who uses about 10 different styles when he fights Fung Hak On (who, by the way, does mantis fist better than anyone!). Watch this movie, but only AFTER you have watched "Shaolin Temple", which has most of the same cast. It is a bit odd to see a sequel where all the actors are considerably younger, but believe me, you will get more out of the story if you do it this way! ![]() Classic!! Shaolin students out to get revenge on the Machus! 5 pupils from Shaolin set out to get revenge after shaolin has been destroyed. Each train in a skill to take out 5 Manchu enemies, one being a Shaolin traitor. One thing about this film is there aren't any kung fu masters to train the Shaolin renegades--they train themselves! The end fights are perfectly executed. A must-see for kung fu fans. ![]() Shaolin monks sniff out a traitor and then train hard in order to get revenge. ![]() Truly a great martial movie and a nice sequel. ![]() Good old school kung fu movie featuring stars who later became superstars. -Noel 'Bravo' Francis (see my profile) ![]() Pretty good. ![]() The various styles of Kung Fu seen in this movie are quite amazing. A downside which seems to be common with many Chinese films is the editing. It is abrupt with no indication of elapsed time. Apart from this it is fun and the Kung Fu as stated before is exceptional. ![]() One of my favorite Martial Arts movies. It has some of my favorite actors in it too. ![]() I saw this movie when I was a teenager in Liberia, West Africa. I still believe it is probably the best kung fu movie ever made and Alexander Fu Sheng the best Chinese actor ever--see his other movies. The kid had it all. He is the best. May his soul rest in peace. ![]() This was a cool movie. ![]() Another Chang Cheh movie shot in Taiwan. Dont get me wrong, Im glad he went there, cuz he brought back guys like the venoms and Dick Wei. But i always felt that the movies he made over there were a little bland and had kind of a lowbudget feel to them, since they didnt have all the Shaw studio luxuries to rely on. The fighting is good, but without the lavish sets, costumes and what not, it all feels a bit flat. Not much of a story, but a great cast and despite the lack of usual Shaw bros. shine it is still miles ahead of your average independent old schooler. ![]() This is a great movie from 1974, with Ti Lung, Fu Sheng, and Chi Kuan-chun at their peak. (I prefer "Shaolin Martial Arts" though, that basically has the same cast.) A very young Gordon Liu appears for only a minute. The story is entertaining and some nice training scenes. Not quite as good as I expected but still very nice. ![]() This movie is a must-have for everyone who loves kung fu! Great acting, great fights--a top 5 film for me. ![]() ![]() Excellent soundtrack and kung fu at its best. ![]() Love the "old school" martial arts at any given moment! Action galore. ![]() Cool film--kinda dull at some parts but makes up for that with some amazing fights and a very-bloody and unforgiving finale.
