The first half of this movie seemed to be a bit too forced in the humor and there are probably too many characters that are thrown in. The later half sobers up enough so that the subject of the udon dish is taken more seriously. There is little similarities of this film to the earlier Tampopo which dealt with making a good bowl of ramen.
