These are not high art, but Meiko Kaji is a magnetic presence, and the abuse heaped on her character is more than sufficient to justify her violent revenge. This series made the women-in-prison genre very popular in Japan for several years, but few if any of its imitators were either so extreme or so entertaining.

I watched all three films over three days while on holiday. Just can't beat a bit of good old seventies movie violence. Enjoyed every minute of each film, can't think of anything I didn't like.

I'll definitely be watching them again a few times over. The emotion and atmosphere are strong even when there isn't a word spoken. Scorpion's stares convey it all.
