The concept of "Lonesome Cowboys" is a sort of Romeo and Juliet--Western style. Thanks, Andy Warhol.
Overview:
The main idea of the film Lonesome Cowboys is that of a sort of Romeo and Juliet in Western style. It tells in a very breezy way the undertakings of a group of cowboys who live with great emotional participation tender erotic relations in a lost village of Arizona where there is also the beautiful owner of the casino and the sheriff who is glad to dress up as an Indian squaw to make the evenings of the gang more pleasant. Ramona – the beautiful owner of the casino played by the great superstar Viva – the only female character in the film, desperately tries to seduce one of the beautiful cowboys. How? By singing the blessing of the Catholic Mass! Joe Dallesandro, who will become the fetish actor of all the following productions, appears for the first time in this film. Andy Warhol has been capable of making a Western without a saloon nor a gunfight but with really a lot more.
