In Qing Dynasty Chinatown, a dispute over water rights leads to corruption and murder. Not what I was expecting from a movie staring Cheng Pei-Pei, mainly because there is no kung-fu and all the violence is meted out with firearms.
But, that aside, I found the movie to be very enjoyable in an early 60s kinda' way. They manage to pack in a little bit of everything, from action to comedy to romance to a few operatic musical numbers, with a rather good moral at the end of about the true nature of revenge.
While it isn't the kung-fu spectacle you'd expect from a movie staring Cheng Pei-Pei, it is still worth checking out. |
