Manji is Masumura's twenty-eighth film. Its packed running time offers a scabrous catalogue of infatuation, lesbianism, adultery, duplicity, phantom pregnancies, blackmail, drugs, blood oaths, ménages à trois, suicide pacts and death, but this is filmed so exquisitely that the film resists any classification at all.

I recommend it to all who likes the films of Masumura and who likes Asian Cinema.
