King Hu is a legendary director, no doubt! "The Valiant Ones" is one of his worst movies, though it is still a good movie.

The epic pictures lost at weight. Nevertheless, King Hu has got a brilliant cast--a lot of Beijing Opera students are in this flick: Yuen Wah, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Jackie Chan should also have a small role, I could not identify him 'till now. But you also see Mars in a funny Japanese role.

The movie itself has a simple plot and is easy to understand.

A long-lost film for King Hu fans.

Interesting old fashioned Hong Kong movie. It is rather slow, although it is well thought of by most critics.

It is an interesting movie that it wants you to see once.

I was really satisfied with this movie. I already have "A Touch Of Zen", and that was too long with not much of action. "The Valiant Ones" is very entertaining from start to finish with a lot of action throughout the whole movie. Choreography is fine and there's not only fighting with weapons but also some with empty hands. Well I like this one.

Although not in the same league as the King Hu absolute classics of "Zen And Sword" and "Dragon Gate Inn", this film is a good further choice and has some unique stuff of its own.

It has a very young Sammo Hung playing a bad guy and involved in one of the most vicious sword fights I have seen in a martial arts film at the end of the movie. How did they do that stuff so fast without hurting themselves? It's not just the cut and thrust, it's the speed of this one that makes it look so authentic.

Then there is a young(er) Sam Seed showing some of his great touches.

There are good martial arts sequences and assorted and varied weapons on show and put to exciting and interesting use. All in all a good movie and one you should get if you are into King Hu.

Another forest-driven action vehicle from King Hu, who cornered the market on this style of film.

Watching this film, you can see all the elements that were copied many times over by other productions that followed, even until this day.

A groundbreaker.

This film, as with all the early King Hu films, is more than just a kung fu film. There is a story, however that has been edited with varying effects on the storyline. The films are still worth seeing. I often wish I could see the original conception. "Legend Of The Mountain" is the worst affected by losing about one hour, cut to two hours. "A Touch Of Zen" is the best. For me all are worth seeing. They are all more than usual kung fu beat-em-up films.

If you're one for nostalgia and trivia then this is your stuff. King Hu's production gives us not just a glimpse but a spectacular scenery of Hong Kong cinema. Sammo Hung's fast and great martial art moves could be scene here.

The plot has been re-done by Tsui Hark's "Swordsman 2", but King Hu's direction and the film's cinematography is breathtaking.

One of the early movies that I was not able to see in the theater. The DVD does not disappoint. Great action, colorful villains, great plot. If you pay attention you will see a lot of supporting actors here before they became well known. If you are a fan of Chinese action movies you should see this and reminisce.

This is quite simply an all-time classic! A very young Sammo Hung is magnificent as a deadly Japanese criminal-gang leader. There are many famous faces to be found, and the film is one of the best made by King Hu.

Basic plot - Japanese ronin have teamed up with Chinese gangs and plague the Chinese coast, robbing & killing unchecked. So, a group of fighters is sent to defeat them. Including the stunning, deadly Mrs Wu and her magnificent husband, the "Whirlwind". There are too many great, original, dynamic fight scenes to mention. Just buy this film if you are even remotely intersted in martial arts or action films. The ending, not to give anything away, is typically Chinese...
