| Surprisingly a lot of lessons for the small business owner are inside this low budget but good movie. Some of them include: don't cut out your middlemen if they're doing a better job than you can, hire better help, don't ball out of control and buy a pool table. For some reason, lots of pool is played here. Whether it is to preface a drug deal or a favor, there is always the sound of pool balls’ crashing. This is even more evident in the last scene. Its inclusion and meaning are debatable, but it all adds to the mythology to the first drug cartel in Columbia.
There wasn't much violence, but watching the growth of a nobody to somebody is worth the ride. Of course all the violence is shown in the trailer. An easy comparison would be to "Scarface" but there isn't an equivalent of exciting monologues or scenes that can be restaged without losing its efficiency. One thing that bugged me is how they were able to reap so much profit. I can see how since they were the first ones slanging that they would be getting a heftier cut than the ones down the line, but El Rey seems so middle management to be affording his lifestyle.
